Three programs that cover literacy and numeracy are offered. Please read the detailed information below to see what each program includes. If you have any questions, or you cannot see what you were looking for, please do not hesitate to email Jac directly at theeduteachsociety@gmail.com.

Every program includes systematic explicit instruction. The content of these programs includes:

Little Linguists

Reading, writing and spelling through: - Development of Phonological Awareness, including Phonemic Awareness - Phonic Knowledge - Word solving (decoding) - Fluency - Comprehension - Handwriting - Spelling (encoding) - Oral language - Writing grammatically correct sentences. The evidenced-based program used is Little Learners Love Literacy. This program is based on the Science of Language and Reading. Additional instruction and practise with Phonemic Awareness is done through following the Heggerty program. I use The Writing Revolution Strategies to explicitly teach sentence and paragraph level skills.

Count Crew

Development of strong number sense and counting. Content includes: - subitising & spatial relationships - one/two more and less - benchmarks of 5 and 10 - part-part-whole - rote counting forwards and backwards - counting collections with one-to-one correspondence - cardinality - order irrelevance - more/less - skip counting (identifying patterns). Strong number sense and foundations for counting are vital for children to be confident and competent in other number concepts such as place value, addition & subtraction and multiplication. It is important to spend time getting this right from the beginning.

Number Nexus

Development of the first 4 ‘Big Ideas’ in Number such as: - Trust the Count - Place Value - Additive Thinking - Multiplicative Thinking These are fundamental concepts that children must understand to work with numbers confidently and competently (Di Siemon). Once children ‘trust the count’, we go beyond counting to place value, addition & subtraction and then multiplicative thinking.
